- What gets you in the holiday spirit?
Christmas music! I honestly could listen to it ALL. Year. Long! It’s kind of ridiculous. By the end of New Years, my family is pretty ready to listen to regular music again. And I love Christmas scented candles. And we pretty much go all out on Christmas decorations, too. In fact, I just love every single thing about Christmas. I know people say that it’s their favorite time of year as a fall-back term to sound cheery, but it REALLY is my favorite time of year. I love it so much. There’s a little town in Georgia we used to drive through all the time when we used to go back and forth between my Mom and Dad’s house called Santa Clause, GA. I wanted to live there. I still could live there. It’s not a very big town at all, but it’s awesome. You should look it up.
- What is your best memory of Christmas?
My mom making all sorts of goodies when I was a kid: pecan pralines, meatloaf balls, peanut brittle, peanut butter fudge, a million different cookies, weenies. My stomach is rumbling…
- If you could reinvent a famous Christmas character (Rudolf, Frosty the Snowman, Jack Frost, Santa Claus, etc.) and write you own version of their story (like a fairytale retelling), which one would you choose? Why?
Oooh! You’re giving me idea…. I think a YA Jack Frost story could be super neat and sexy! Maybe next for Christmas… I’m not even kidding.
- What is your favorite Christmas song?
Easy. Rocking Around the Christmas Tree. There are tons of songs that I love and that make me feel nostalgic, but that song has always been my favorite, ever since I was kid.
- We all have book boyfriends, which one would you like to spend Christmas with? Why?
Hmm... I’m going to cheat. It’ll be between Callum from Fisher Amelie’s Callum & Harper because could you imagine how awesomely sweet he’d be to you at Christmas time? The mugs of hot cocoa alone would be worth it. And the other would be Trey from Under Different Stars by Amy Bartol. And the reason for that would be because I’m sure it’s so cold on that planet at Christmas…and I’d need to be warmed up. ;)
- You can never get too old for your favorite Christmas characters and their movies? Which ones do you still like to watch with your family?
We watch Christmas Vacation every year! Who doesn’t love the Griswolds. I’m leaving that without a question mark because that is totally a statement! We also watch The Christmas Story every year and It’s A Wonderful Life and all the old cartoons—Frosty, Rudolph, and anything else that comes on. And then I always watch a million movies that come on during the season on TV. I love cheesy Christmas movies. I’ll never watch them again, but they are what they are and it’s awesome. We also love the Santa Clause movies with Tim Allen, but my hubby despises them! :) So the kids and I watch them without him so it’s our own tradition.
- What does the holiday season mean to you?
Christmas is about remembering why we’re here in the first place. It’s about being about to say ‘Merry Christmas’ or ‘Happy Hanukah’ or whatever it is that you want to say and everything will be just fine! It’s about remembering how things used to be. It’s about teaching our kids what’s important. It’s about showing complete strangers love when they’ve never even seen it before. It’s about showing love to an angry teenager who doesn’t even know what love looks like or showing an elderly person that young people aren’t all bad. It’s about bringing people together to help people who need it the most. It’s about all the things we thought could never happen happening all at once. It’s about miracles coming true right in front of our eyes. It’s about remembering the things in our life that make us thankful to be here, remembering a time when someone helped us when we needed it and passing it along to someone else. It’s about changing lives, one life at a time.
Merry Christmas to you and yours this Christmas or Hanukah or Kwanzaa.
