This was true when I first started my blog and it's still true today. The only reason I'm speaking of this at all is that I've seen so many bloggers upset by some things that has been going on.
There's been some things happen lately between bloggers and authors. I think some authors need a little definition of "Book Blogger".
There are a few authors causing some ruckus lately online. Well, I'm not even going to really get into it. I've seen some bloggers that have been hurt because when they bust their butt for us, most of the time, they don't ask for much in return. If you haven't seen the threads on Goodreads and the tweets & Facebook & blog wars about it, in my opinion, you're not missing anything.
I'm not going to go into what was said or not said, or who was right or not right, I'll just say this.
Number one, 'those' authors. The ones who use people and have an opinion about everything and feel the need to be rude and will do anything to get to the top? They don't speak for all Indies.
Number two, book bloggers are free publicity and marketing, a helping hand to get out author news and release stuff, ongoing support, a vital tool for our readers to find us and our books, friends, neighbors, you name it.
Plus THEY DON'T GET PAID TO DO IT!
They take time from their families, school, jobs, whatever, and do it solely for their enjoyment of books and to run their busy blogs. I credit a ton of my book sales to book bloggers and I'll tell anyone that asks me that that's the truth.
Truth be told, I've run across a few 'duds' if you will in the blogger world. The same would be said for dud authors. You have to take the bad with the good, but in this case, the good FAR outweighs the bad. If we started a rant every time someone did something we didn't like, I'd never go back to the grocery store or Burger King!
I could go on and on, but I won't.
Respectful Bottom line?
This is a business. You can't always get what you want when and how you want it. You have to work hard, busting your butt, and push through setbacks. You have to travel long roads of rejection and feelings of wasted time, and burning bridges isn't the way to get you there. If all of what I just said isn't worth it to you to push it down and keep going, then I don't think you're in the right business.
END OF RANT
My favorite blogger is so easy because I love her to pieces and she's been with me literally from the beginning. She was the first blogger to review my book and I've got mad love for her.
